Why Preparation Actually Matters
When our detailer arrives, every minute counts. We've allocated a specific block of time to your vehicle based on the service you've booked. If we spend the first 20 minutes clearing out personal items from your back seat, organizing your trunk, or waiting for you to move parking obstacles, that time comes out of the detail itself — not added to the end.
Clients who prepare their vehicles consistently receive more thorough results. It's not a question of effort on our part — it's a matter of physics. A clear car gives us uninterrupted access to every surface from the moment we arrive.
The Pre-Detail Checklist
1. Remove All Personal Items
This is the single most important step. Go through your vehicle and remove everything that isn't permanently attached: gym bags, water bottles, sunglasses, phone chargers, car seats, shopping bags, paperwork, and anything else living in your seats, footwells, cup holders, or trunk.
You don't need to deep-clean anything — just clear the space. Think of it the way you'd tidy before a house cleaner arrives. We handle the detail; you handle the declutter.
2. Clear the Trunk Completely
Many clients forget about the trunk. If you're booking an interior detail or a full-service package like our Aura Cleanse or Aura Presidential, we'll need full access to vacuum and treat the cargo area. A trunk full of groceries, sports equipment, or emergency supplies will need to be moved — and it's significantly faster when you've done it in advance.
3. Park in an Accessible Location
For mobile detailing in Sacramento, Folsom, and surrounding areas, we come directly to your home or office. Make sure your vehicle is parked in a spot that gives us at least 3–4 feet of clearance on all sides. A driveway works perfectly. Underground parking structures and tight garages create challenges with equipment access and water runoff.
If you have a preferred side of the vehicle for special attention — a door ding, a bird dropping stain, a coffee spill — note it and mention it when we arrive. We'll prioritize accordingly.
4. Note Any Problem Areas in Advance
Think through the last few months of driving. Are there any areas that need extra attention? Common items to flag:
- Pet hair on rear seats or cargo area
- Food or drink spills on upholstery
- Sticky residue on interior panels (drive-through stickers, parking passes)
- Tree sap, bird droppings, or road tar on the exterior paint
- Smoke or pet odor embedded in the interior
The more specific you are, the more targeted our treatment can be. Some of these require additional time or specialty products — flagging them upfront means we arrive prepared.

Schedule NowWhat NOT to Do Before Your Appointment
Don't Pre-Wash the Car (Especially Incorrectly)
It's thoughtful, but often counterproductive. If you wash your car with an automatic drive-through or a dirty sponge right before your appointment, you may introduce fresh swirl marks into the paint — the exact thing a professional detail is designed to correct or prevent. Leave the exterior as-is. We have the right products and methods to handle whatever condition your paint is in.
Don't Leave Valuables
We take exceptional care of every vehicle we touch, but it's best practice to remove items of value — wallets, jewelry, laptops, and anything irreplaceable — before any service professional works in your car. This applies broadly, not just to us.
Don't Apply Fragrance Products
If you're hoping for a particular interior scent after your detail, let us handle it. Applying air freshener or fabric spray right before your appointment can interfere with odor-elimination treatments and mask issues we'd otherwise identify and treat at the source.
What You Can Leave to Us
Everything else. You don't need to vacuum first, wipe surfaces down, or pre-treat stains. Our process is built to start from whatever state your vehicle is in and deliver a showroom-ready result. The prep steps above are about efficiency and access — not about doing our work for us.
If you have questions about what to expect from a specific service, our blog covers the full detail process in depth, or you can call us directly at (916) 936-5920 before your appointment.
Day-Of Summary
On the morning of your appointment, run through this quick checklist:
- All personal items removed from seats, footwells, cup holders, and door pockets
- Trunk cleared and accessible
- Vehicle parked with clearance on all sides
- Any problem areas mentally noted to mention on arrival
- Valuables removed from the vehicle
That's it. Five items. Ten minutes of your time. In return, you'll get a more thorough result, delivered on time, with every inch of your vehicle given the attention it deserves — rather than the attention that was left after logistics.
